Grande Porto, S.A. was born in February 1981 when Mário Gonçalves decided to take advantage of some of the agricultural produce in the Gondomar region and had the idea of starting to produce an artisanal chilli sauce. With very rudimentary production at the time, Grande Porto has always had very strict and innovative quality control of the products we put on the market.
 

The range of food products evolved and the company expanded its portfolio to include household confectionery, by introducing products such as coconut, chocolate, chocolate granules, birthday candles and magic stars, among others, to large supermarkets. This is where the company was a pioneer, since only confectioners and factories had access to this type of product, and this is how it began to diversify its range of products under the “Nutry” brand.

In the meantime, always trying to innovate and find new products, we have always tried to be pioneers in doing and trying new things. We were the first company to make and package lamprey with the name and signature of a 100% Alvarinho for our ‘Nutry Gourmet’ range.

The world of wine - A family passion

As a result of a family passion, the opportunity to enter the world of wine arose in 2000 in Greater Porto, SA. At the time, we established partnerships with a farm and began commercialising a brand of Alvarinho wine. Later, and as a result of an expansion in the commercialisation of this wine, the opportunity arose to establish new partnerships and join the corporate structure of other farms, with which we still work today.

Over the years, Grande Porto – Vinhos e Bebidas has been preparing and selecting batches of the best grape varieties to produce unique wines. The Alentejo region, known for its hills, gave rise to the Montes de Lá brand; the Dão region, home to imposing mountain ranges, gave rise to the Serras de Lá brand; and the Douro region, well known for its beautiful hillsides, gave rise to the Encostas de Lá brand. Another region for which Portugal is internationally renowned when it comes to wines is the Vinho Verde region, the origin of two of our brands, Messala and Desfiado. Messala, our most prized wine, is created with the noblest grape variety in the Vinho Verde region, the Alvarinho variety, produced in the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço. Desfiado is our homage to the characteristic regional embroidery. We shred a story with Vinho Verde grape varieties, we shred the Minho.

The Grande Porto Group currently covers three main business areas, associated with different brands: Food and Disposables; Wine and Water; Household Goods and DPH.

The continuity of the work started by the founding partner is currently ensured by his descendants and a vast team of employees, who strive every day to provide all customers and friends with a personalised and efficient service, with high quality, safe and competitive products.
